This styled shoot was organized to showcase jewelry by VUE by SEK, a Charlotte small business owner with stunning handcrafted earrings, necklaces, and more. Sarah, the owner of VUE by SEK, is always a pleasure to work with for several reasons: she’s easygoing, clear and organized, and she trusts and embraces creative direction. I loved planning this styled product photos shoot with her, and love the images even more.
We decided to host the shoot indoors for weatherproof planning, and flexibility with props and styling. We committed to using my studio space in NoDa, and went with a modern minimal approach to luxury. For this shoot, that looked like a cream colored textured backdrop and a simple ladder for varying the heights of flowers. The floral pieces were all from the talented florist, @irisblossomclt.
A large part of the planning process was to cast the models. I reached out to mostly those who I had worked with previously on other projects. However, I also accepted applications for the model call through my website and got in touch with new faces that way. The models came at staggered time slots that sometimes overlapped—this was key to the efficiency of the day!
Not only were we taking still images; we were also capturing video content for social media. I got into the habit of alternating between still images and vertically shot video clips with each model. For the clips, we used largely the same composition as the stills. The key difference was that the models had to each move fluidly and naturally to showcase the pieces.
