Golden Hour Family Portraits in Matthews

When it comes to capturing family portraits with babies or toddlers, the number one goal of everyone involved is to just go with the flow and let go. Sure, it’s ideal to get a few posed shots, but the essence of the sessions should be creating candid moments with prompts, and making real memories for the family. That’s what professional photography in Charlotte, NC should look like! Also, that’s exactly the approach I took with this session, which was very near and dear to my heart since it was a gift to my sister for her 30th birthday!

Jack was not yet one year old for this session, so while he couldn’t stand on his own, we still managed to pull it off with a large variety!

One of my best tips for those planning their own family photo session is to coordinate outfits, rather than match. Make sure no one in the family is too casual or overly formal compared with the rest of the family members. Think about what colors will look best with the scenery, the time of day, and the season, and dress accordingly. Accessories can be fun, but in a pinch remember simple is best! Personally, I like to style the children or the mother of the family first with a statement piece or a pattern, then pull colors from that outfit to coordinate the rest of the family. How cute is baby Jack’s little ensemble, complete with the bow tie, suspenders and hat? I have to say adorable!
